EDP new head office with passive fire protection system installed by TRIA

TRIA installed passive fire protection systems in the metal structure of the EDP new head office, Av. 24 de Julho in Lisbon.

TRIA congratulates itself to have participated in one of the greatest works carried out in the current economic context the country is going through, and that constitutes a new architectonic reference in Lisbon.

Designed by the Architecture Office Aires Mateus Associados, the building combines concrete and steel in an extraordinary structural set where architecture and engineering meet stunningly.

The occult metal structure of the building was protected with the system TRIA BIOFIRE, a pasty mortar, certified in accordance with the European standards, for fire protection on metal and mixed structures (beams and posts), poured slabs, concrete or wood structure and building of partition walls.

In the metal structure exposed, TRIA applied an intumescent coating and the corresponding finishing that, in function to the bulkiness of the profiles, reached 4000 microns. It is a real challenge, considering the choice of the solution, bearing in mind the environmental requirements, the proximity of the site from the river Tejo, its location in the surrounding urban area, the application of the system with high thickness and the transport constraints that prevented the application in the workshop. All this implied that all the system was applied on the site and TRIA had to manage other constraints related to the application of several coats, climate conditions, and lateral protections, among others.

And all this was done in a fixed deadline, which obliged an extreme rigorous planning to ensure that nothing would fail. And nothing failed. The building will enter into operation by 2015 and either the fire protection of the metal structure or the fire protection of the smoke extraction ducts and ventilation are present and constitute a new challenge overcome by TRIA.
