Passive Fire Protection in the industry sector

Safety starts with prevention! This is a principle applied to safety in general and consequently to the fire safety in buildings.

In the industrial buildings, there is not only the concern of human beings safeguarding but also a strong concern with the industrial patrimony and we need to guaranty a safe intervention of the firemen, the protection of industrial equipment (to ensure the continuity of the business after damage) and decrease the environmental consequences associated to industrial fires.

In this context, the Passive Fire Protection (PFP) presents a particular importance in industrial buildings that present a risk of fire or important explosions.

The PFP is essential from the beginning to ensure the structural stability of the building in case of fire and to split and limit the compartments, decreasing the catastrophic effects of fire propagation in industrial plants.

In Portugal, the requirements associated to PFP present a special attention in the decree 1532/2008 that establishes a technical regulation of fire safety conditions in buildings and perimeters to which the architecture projects, the SCIE projects and other speciality projects must obey, namely regarding the SCIE general and specific conditions, among others.

In the CHAPTER X- Use-type XII « Industries, workshops and warehouses » the SCIE general and technical dispositions are established regarding the conditions of behaviour to fire, insulation and protection, evacuation conditions, the conditions of the technical installations, the conditions of the equipment and safety systems and self-protection.

TRIA makes a large range of solutions tested in accordance to the most demanding international prescriptive referential available: UL; ASTM; EN; FM Approvals, among others for industrial buildings.

Protection of metal and concrete structures, doors, fire curtains and glass panels, protection of electrical wiring, firewall joints, building of fire smoke extraction ducts and smoke extraction/ natural ventilation are some of the primordial solutions to meet the legal and safety requirements in the industry sector that TRIA produces and installs under strict control of a Quality management system permitting an effective guarantee of the systems installed.
